Updating a motherboard
Some people will copy the bios file to a USB drive for flashing, but I prefer to skip this step and just load the bios file straight from the hard drive. Enter the bios using the 'F2' key as soon as you power on the notebook.Windows 8 users may have trouble getting into the bios with 'F2' (or through the 'ESC' key), so if necessary, boot to Win8 and select the 'settings' charm, Change PC Settings/General/Advanced Startup (restart now). This motherboard uses Intel’s new Z170 chipset, which is only a few months old.If you find yourself with a similar very new motherboard, the absolute first thing you should do is update the BIOS.Make sure the model/platform matches before you say 'Yes' to start the bios flash process allowing time for the process to complete and automatically power off on its own.If you get cold feet and change your mind about flashing the bios, you can still choose 'No' at the prompt to abort the process. After the bios has hopefully flashed successfully, re-enter the bios to load the default settings under the bios 'exit' menu and save and exit.
Click on , and then futz with each of the four settings underneath it.I do this whole puter-building thing a lot, and I’ve been doing it for a long time. When you get a new motherboard, why you update the BIOS?Once the system has restarted, choose Troubleshoot/Advanced options/UEFI Firmware Settings (restart) to enter the bios this way. Inside the bios use the arrow keys to go to the 'Advanced' menu at the top and choose the option for 'Start Easy Flash'. The ASUSTek Easy Flash Utility will start and you will see your drives on the left with cryptic names like 'FS0', 'FS1', etc., so browse through them to find the correct drive with the 'bios' folder and unzipped bios file you downloaded in step #1 above. The right area will show the contents of the drive you selected on the left and you can use the arrow keys to switch between them. Once you found the unzipped bios file you want to use and selected it, the system will show the model/platform of the new bios as well as other details.
